U11 Girls vs. North Kildare Sunday June 16th
With Elsa McCarthy as captain Pembroke won the toss and elected to bat first. We succeeded in scoring consistently throughout our innings with contributions made by all – our highest scorers being Clíona Tucker (12), Loulou Little (10) and 7 each by Kate McAlinden and Elsa.
Our bowling and fielding performance was as good as ever. Eimear Mullen got two wickets in her three overs and Loulou took one in her spell. Daisy Dillon-Malone bowled with promise as did Phoebe Grennell and Kate McAlinden. With three well-coordinated runouts we won easily and then enjoyed the hospitality of our North Kildare opponents with juice and treats for all!
U11A Girls vs. North County Sunday June 9th – Cup Match
Pembroke’s girls continued their winning streak by beating North County by 49 runs in ideal cricket weather conditions. Batting first we made 103 with runs scored by all and many boundaries crossed. We lost only one wicket in a silly runout towards the end of our innings.
Our bowling performance was exceptional . Clíona Tucker gained two wickets in her opening over and with maidens by Loulou Little, Eimear Mullen and Mena Cosgrave and some fine wicket-keeping by Maria Bohan on her debut we kept the NC run rate down and secured a well-deserved victory!
U13A v Clontarf Saturday June 8th - Cup Match
On a beautiful sunny morning, Clontarf won the toss and put us in to bat. Our openers Sanil Gupta (37) and Diarmaid Tucker (9) got us off to a good start and were well supported by JJ Garth (12) and Ben Crowley (16). Our middle order did not yield us many runs and we ended the innings on 101 runs.
Our opening bowlers, Josh Little and Sanil Gupta bowled a tidy opening spell restricting Clontarf to just 16 runs off 4 overs. The pressure was increased when Andrew Vincent played on to the wicket off the bowling of Little. This was backed up by JJ Garth who started his 4 over spell with a maiden. Each of the other bowlers, Diarmaid Tucker, Ben Crowley and Gavin Hoey played their part in keeping the Clontarf run rate down and from the 10th over they were always chasing the game. It was Pembroke’s fielding that had the last say; a great catch by Ben Crowley on the boundary and three run outs in the closing overs left Clontarf needing 21 runs off the final over. Pembroke ran out winners by 15 runs.
U11A vs. Merrion Wednesday June 5th
This evening our u11s played a great match in perfect conditions winning by an emphatic 97 runs! Fielding first we got our opening wicket in the second over from a well-orchestrated runout indicating our levels of concentration in the field were high. Loulou Little was the star bowler gaining 3 wickets for 6 runs off her four overs. Gavin Hoey and David Cosgrave each secured two wickets and with Eimear Mullen and Jeremy Joy each getting one our wicket tally came to an amazing 10! Only one wide was bowled in our whole innings.
Our form continued in the second half with plenty of runs being scored – Patrick Guest (36) including a big six, Clíona Tucker (17), Gavin Hoey (24) and David Cosgrave (21). All in all a very encouraging performance where lots of natural ability shone through!
U13B vs. Railway Union Tuesday June 4th
On a glorious summers evening in Railway Union three of the Pembroke batsmen were retired - Jamie Pullen (25), Zak McCarthy (27) and David Cosgrave (28). Alex Murphy had a very promising start but unfortunately he clipped the top of the bail with his bat and was given out. In the course of the 20 overs we amassed a reasonable total if 122.
Railway started their innings in attack mode with their batsmen hitting fours galore – ably assisted regrettably by some sloppy fielding on our part! Despite Patrick Guest taking three wickets in quick succession it was not enough to stem the flow and Railway were deemed the winners of the evening reaching their target in the 19th over.
U13A vs. Malahide Monday June 3rd
As we batted first, two of the Pembroke boys, JJ Garth and Diarmaid Tucker, were retired on 37 and with Sanil Gupta scoring 19 and Aaron Cawley an impressive 30 not out our scoring continued at a fast pace. Josh Little hit two stunning sixes, one of which went into the gardens and Pembroke’s total came to a very respectable 150.
In the Malahide innings, when JJ Garth achieved a maiden in his first over followed by a wicket maiden in his second, the tone was set for a Pembroke victory. Sanil Gupta secured two wickets and David Cosgrave conceded only five runs off his two overs. Both Patrick Guest and Diarmaid Tucker acquired one wicket each resulting in an inspiring 51 run victory!
U11 Girls Friendly vs. Railway U13 Girls Monday June 3rd
On losing the toss the Pembroke U11 girls were put in to bat and our first pairing of Hannah Little and Mena Cosgrave scored 18 with the loss of one wicket. Loulou Little followed with a score of 15, Eimear Mullen accumulated 12 and with contributions from our other players we totalled 125 for 4 (net 105).
As the sun broke through we started our bowling innings with many dot balls. Evanna Hoey took our 1st wicket in the fifth over and the second followed quickly with Mena Cosgrave in the next over. With the added interest of two sisters Emily and Kate McAlinden playing for opposing teams, the Pembroke side were the champions on the day containing the Railway girls to a total of 102 for 10 (net 52).
After a promising start which saw Alex Murphy retired on 25 runs and David Cosgrave scoring a decent 15 we floundered somewhat and only managed to reach a total of 58 for our innings. Despite a useful Pembroke bowling performance which saw Jeremy Joy and Clíona Tucker take two wickets each and Loulou Little take a fine catch, with our opponents chasing such a low target they didn’t find it too difficult and reached the winning requirement in the 12th over.
U11 Girls vs. YMCA Friday May 24th
Our first girls’ match of 2013 saw us off to great start with an emphatic win over YMCA on a sunny but cool Friday afternoon. Eimear Mullen and Elsa McCarthy set the tone by scoring 26 runs from the first pairing losing one wicket which, as it transpired, was to be the only wicket taken by YM in Pembroke’s innings. Loulou Little added a further 20 in the second pairing and with contributions from Kate McAlinden, Mena Cosgrave and Clíona Tucker we reached a staggering total of 125!
Our bowling performance was just as impressive with Clíona Tucker taking two wickets in her first over and Evanna Hoey taking the third in her spell during which she displayed skilful bowling. Elsa also showed great consistency in keeping wicket and Daisy Dylan-Malone made some useful stops in the field preventing the opposition from crossing the boundary. All in all a very encouraging input from all players!
U11A vs. YMCA Wednesday May 22nd
In a nail-biting finish on Claremont Road our courageous U11A team lost by only four runs in a very evenly matched entertaining game. We batted first and secured 75 runs with Gavin Hoey (17) and Patrick Guest (19) achieving the most. We lost just five wickets against some first-class bowling which displayed our strength and determination (net 50).
Our bowling performance was impeccable from the start with Clíona Tucker and Gavin Hoey gaining three wickets in the first four overs. Our fielding was tight and concentrated and at the halfway stage of the innings YM were 39 for 4, Patrick Guest having taken the fourth wicket. We still managed to keep the run rate down but awarded the opposition free runs by bowling a total of 11 wides (22 runs). With Clíona Tucker taking another two wickets in the last four overs it unfortunately was not enough and the final YM pair scored 16 runs bringing their total to 84 with a loss of 6 wickets (net 54).
U11C vs. Leinster Tuesday May 21st
Our u11C’s put up a brave performance against a mature Leinster side in Sydney Parade. Having won the toss we opted to bat first. Mena Cosgrave and Noah Smith batted well with both scoring boundaries. However we lost wickets consistently throughout our innings with a number of unnecessary run-outs towards the end.
We secured 8 wickets from our bowling with valuable contributions made by all. Two wickets were secured by Macdara Cosgrave and one each in the overs of Andrew McCarthy, Evanna Hoey, Donncha Tucker, Mena Cosgrave, Jack O’Riordan and Noah Smith. Ethan Clarke (in his debut for Pembroke), Sean O’Riain and Jonah Miller all provided important backup for their team. Another encouraging match from our youngest members with glimpses of the potential talent that awaits us!
U13B vs. Merrion Sunday May 19th
On a warm sunny day we won the toss and decided to bat. After losing our first wicket in the first over, our openers settled down and put on 56 runs off 8 overs, with Zac McCarthy (14) and Patrick Guest (25 Retired) in particular doing well. Our middle order managed only a few extra runs with the team suffering three run outs in a row. Gavin Hoey put on 7 runs before he too fell foul of a run out trying to force another run for the team. Hannah Little managed 8 runs (not out) at the tail end of the innings. Pembroke finished with 95 runs.
The Merrion innings started with the sun high in the sky and a high risk of sunburn. The Pembroke opening bowlers of Gavin Hoey, Hannah Little and Hugh Sheehy O'Shea gave the team hope when restricting Merrion to just 21 runs after 7 overs, with Hugh Sheehy O'Shea taking the first U13B wicket of the season. Merrions opening bat steadied the ship for his team before retiring on 25 runs. After 11 overs Merrion were on 50 runs and the match was heading for a nail biting finish. All of our bowlers played a part in keeping the Merrion scoring rate down, but gradually Merion took control of the match. The game was almost turned on its head when first Patrick Guest and then Gavin Hoey each took 2 wickets right at the death. However Merrion got the run they needed to win the game. A great team effort all round and a wonderful days cricket! U11C vs. YMCA on Wednesday May 8th
On a lovely sunny but chilly Wednesday evening many of our U11c boys and girls were making their debut as team players for Pembroke! We lost the toss and were put in to bat. Scoring was difficult against some precise bowling but both Noah Smith and Elsa McCarthy scored a good 8 runs each.
All our players contributed hugely to our bowling performance which was enthusiastic and skilfull so much so that it was remarked upon by our opponents! Evanna Hoey secured two wickets in her opening over with Macdara Cosgrave gaining another two. Our fifth wicket was taken by Sean O’Riain. An all-round positive performance by everyone – well done all!
U11A vs. Phoenix on Sunday May 5th
Our U11’s season got off to a great start with a 16 run victory over Phoenix in a closely fought contest in sunny but windy conditions. We batted first with David Cosgrave scoring 19 in the first pairing but our runs in the middle pairings were kept to a minimum by very accurate bowling and tight fielding by Phoenix which claimed seven wickets. Gavin Hoey and Patrick Guest put on an impressive 19 runs in the final pairing of our innings to bring our total score to 80 for 7 (net 45).
After a halftime pep talk by Bobbo we headed out to field with a spring in our step but had to wait until the fourth over to claim our first wicket by David Cosgrave. Good bowling and great fielding kept the Phoenix runs down and halfway through the innings they were 27 for 3. As the Phoenix batsmen became anxious to put runs on the board they began to concede wickets and we secured two runouts as a result of magnificent fielding by our two youngest players Noah Smith and Macdara Cosgrave. Patrick Guest and Gavin Hoey then assisted by taking handy wickets near the end resulting in a final score of 79 for 10 for Phoenix (net29).
U13A vs. Phoenix Saturday May 4th
The U13s got their season off to a very positive start with an emphatic 46 run victory over Phoenix despite being 4 for 2 after the delivery of only 5 balls! After the early dismissals Diarmaid Tucker steadied the ship and was retired on 35 while Gavin Hoey scored a solid 26 runs. Contributions were also made by Ben Crowley (22) and Josh Little (17) to bring our total to 127 for the innings.
Our bowling produced some fine wickets with everyone taking an active part – JJ Garth and Patrick Guest took two wickets each and Jamie Pullen and Sanil Gupta each took one. With two runouts we kept our opponents run rate at bay. A great win for our first outing of the season!
